Session 00 — Workshop Setup

Enter your LogicMonitor username in the personalization form on this page. It creates a download with a unique API hostname, module names, and category for your work in the shared portal.

What you’ll set up

Create a monitored resource that the workshop modules can target and use to query the training API.

Personalize your workshop

Enter the username from your LogicMonitor invitation. It gives your resource, LogicModules, and category unique names in the shared portal.

Saving your ID unlocks the remaining sessions in this browser. It also personalizes the guides and script links. You can return here to change your ID. It is not sent to the site.

Use the username shown in your portal invitation, for example STUDENTNAME_XX.

Access your lab portal

Use the LogicMonitor account invitation and validation emails to activate your workshop login:

  1. Find the Email Verification email and select Verify Email Address.
  2. Find the Now that you’ve created your LogicMonitor Account email. It contains your assigned username (for example, STUDENTNAME_XX) and a link to your LogicMonitor portal (for example, dcm030.logicmonitor.com). Use that username when you personalize your workshop download.
  3. Open the portal link from that email, initiate and complete a password reset, then log in with your assigned username and new password.

Using your own portal or sandbox? Feel free to follow along there instead. Make sure your account can create resources and import or edit LogicModules.

Start here

  1. Create a resource group with the name LMElevate

  2. Add a resource in expert mode. Set Name to Training Fabric API studentname-04 and IP Address/DNS Name to studentname-04.lm-workshop.com.

  3. Assign it to the LMElevate resource group and a working Collector.

  4. Add these resource properties:

    fabric.api.user=INSTRUCTOR_PROVIDED_USER
    fabric.api.pass=INSTRUCTOR_PROVIDED_PASS

    Use the shared values supplied by the instructor.

  5. Confirm the collector can reach your API hostname by performing a Poll Now collection of the Ping- datasource attached to the newly created resource.

Check your result

  • system.hostname is your unique API hostname.
  • The resource display name includes your unique student ID.
  • Both fabric.api.* properties are present.
  • The resource has a Collector assignment.
  • The Collector is online and monitored.

Key idea

Do not continue until the resource and credentials are ready. Later scripts build the API URL from system.hostname.
